If she was normal, maybe she could have just had a conversation with Natalie. They were friends, for gods sake, but somehow in Lottie’s mind it made more sense to throw elaborate parties at her parents house as a means of flirting instead of actually… flirting.
Lottie had nursed a secret crush for years until this year, senior year, when she had decided maybe she would finally try and do something about it.
Doing something involved, apparently, one thousand pink balloons, a dj, and everyone she knew. This was so deeply unlike her, but so perfect for Natalie.

Like a cheesy ass scene from some lame romance movie, Natalie first sees Lottie Matthews from across a dance floor.
The stranger staring at Nat from across the room had long, black hair and wispy curtain bangs, and dark, dark eyes that seemed to see straight into Natalie’s soul. Nat was frozen to the spot, transfixed by her gaze, watching as her lips curled into a soft smile.
As the woman stared at her across the floor, Nat’s stomach lurched, a feeling like she had been punched taking over her. She took a sip of her cheap beer, a poor attempt at steadying her nerves. The crowd closed around them suddenly, and Nat was alone.
