Summary
After a moment, Steve pauses to pull away from Eddie. He reaches up and tucks a stray curl behind Eddie’s ear, and his fingertips trace along Eddie’s cheekbone on the way back down.
Steve drops his head back against the pillow and sighs. “It’s been a long day, and I’m not really up for…”
Chastened, Eddie sits back on his heels as embarrassment colors his cheeks pink. “That’s okay. It’s okay. We can just hang out. Watch TV. Or go to sleep. Whatever.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Steve hooks his fingers in the hem of Eddie’s t-shirt and tugs him closer, until they’re almost nose-to-nose again. His eyes flick down to Eddie’s lips. “I’m just saying, I don’t need anything. What do you need?”
Or: After Steve moves out of his parents' house and into an apartment with Eddie, he goes on medication to treat his depression. It's great, except for the part where it messes with his sex drive. Thankfully, Steve and Eddie are nothing if not resourceful. (Slightly aged-up smut, set in '89.)

Summary
Christopher’s chest heaved once, followed by the sound of a stifled sob. Like a dam breaking, he hunched over slightly, shoulders shaking.
He was crying. Why would he be—
Oh.
He looked up at Eddie, tears streaming down his red cheeks, the dark makeup around his eyes somehow unaffected.
“I’m gay,” he confessed between shaky breaths, his voice cracking over the words.
or
Eddie refuses to raise himself

Summary
When the firefighter walks into Eddie's coffeeshop, Eddie immediately knows two things about him: he's not human, and he's the love of Eddie's life.
Oh, he knows a bunch of other things too, obviously. He's about thirty, a few months younger than Eddie himself. He has a scar on his throat, like he got stabbed there, and one of his legs has some metal rods in it that must have come from a bad injury. The guy doesn't know he's not human, which is a tricky thing to figure out, but Eddie's almost positive. Most of the non-humans he knows have always known they aren't people, but there are exceptions, and they tend to carry themselves differently. Ana before her first full moon as a werewolf had a very different vibe from Ana after.
The firefighter moves like he knows he doesn't belong, but not like he knows why. Like he's afraid of taking up space, afraid of being noticed.
As if Eddie is even capable of not noticing him.

Summary
From there, it becomes a thing. At least once a day, either Christopher or Buck declare that a mild inconvenience is a part of the anti-gay agenda.
They hit every red light? During pride month? Homophobic.
The hot water stops working? In June? Homophobic.
Or, Eddie doesn't think he really needs to come out to anyone. Christopher adopts a new catchphrase. Buck is confused.
