Summary
The sight of Rio’s tank in Reveck’s lab no longer horrifies Viktor. He feels sorry for the creature, but if its suffering is the key to Viktor’s success, it’s a price he can live with. It’s strange how malleable morals are when the mind is under pressure. Over the last few weeks Viktor has become familiar with the process of distilling shimmer. He’s working only with the highly refined, well tested medicinal kind in the hopes that it’ll raise the chances of success, and he might be onto something. If only it would work.
Reveck watches him with keen eyes, quietly working alongside him, a surprisingly calming presence. “You know, my daughter has been in her pod for a very long time now,” he says quietly. “He won’t age, and you have enough time to work out how to save him.”

Summary
Izzy has no illusions about his appearance. He’s scarred, and tattooed, and any of the “respectable” people living in these houses would sooner spit on him than look at him.
But Izzy is out of options, desperate. Any chance of escape is better than none. He hurls himself at the door, pounding on it.
“Honestly, what kind of time do you call this-” A blond man in an expensive looking dressing gown demands.
“Please, help, they’re after-” At the same time, Izzy is already pleading, out of breath from his mad dash but still fighting.
Both fall silent at the same time. Izzy can smell it, so strongly as the heat starts to heighten his senses. This is another alpha.
And he must smell the heat and terror on Izzy, they way his nostrils flare and his eyes go wide. Oh fuck.
“Oh you poor darling.” The alpha coos sympathetically, but Izzy can see the hunger in his eyes. He steps aside the open door to let Izzy enter. “Come in, let me take care of you!”
It’s an obvious trap.
Izzy doesn’t have any better options. One alpha offering to “take care of him” is definitely better than a whole pack of them who won’t even pretend to be polite about it.
