Summary
Being a care kid meant being constantly exposed to the harsh realities of life from an early age. Nothing was sugar-coated—your life belonged in a black bin bag that followed you from foster homes to care facilities, never truly belonging anywhere. But for Elena Gold, journalism was her way out. The school paper became her outlet to expose the truth, to peel back the layers of the world around her and expose the things most people would rather ignore.
When a troubling report about the neglect of the academy's mini-farm lands on her desk, Elena dives into the story. Teaming up with the enigmatic Damian Wayne - Gotham Academy’s most mysterious student - she finds herself uncovering more than she bargained for. Together, they investigate the cruelty inflicted on the animals at the mini-farm, and in turn form an allyship of sorts. Or at least, that’s what Damian refers to it as.
Elena’s journalistic motivations lead her down a slippery slope into Gotham’s criminal underworld, riddled with mob families, corruption, and violence. What began as an investigation into the dark side of Gotham, turns into a journey of discovering her own twisted past.

Damian stands alone, leaning on the edge of the building. You’re not surprised by this—Damian has always preferred being alone to being with others. Honestly, you’re not sure he even enjoys being with others (though Jon has assured you he does). The only reason you think he maybe can tolerate being around a group of people, aside from Jon’s constant assurance, was the fact that he was here, on this roof.
He doesn’t have a red solo cup, but he’s holding a glass cup full of water that he presumably brought from downstairs. You rush to his side in a matter of seconds. “We’re not late!” You announce loudly to him.
Damian doesn’t startle—you’re not sure he’s capable of that. He turns his head slightly in your direction, his expression remaining emotionless. He straightens up slightly, you weren’t even sure that was possible, given his already pristine posture. “I know.” He states casually, taking a long sip from his water. “I gave you the wrong time.”
“I—” You pause for a second. “Are you serious?”
“It doesn’t start for,” Damian lifted the left sleeve of his black shirt to look at his watch. It looked expensive and, knowing him, it probably was. “Another twelve minutes and about… thirty-two seconds.”
