    September 20th, 2022. Xxx xxxxx police station. I’m Detective Sneeg here with Thomas Innit-Wastaken under confession of the ‘Smiley killings’.

    “So,” the other man spoke up, “Eight confirmed kills. That’s a hefty number for a seventeen year old.”
    He spoke so casually, as if he was talking about the weather, or a sports game.

    “So do you not believe me?”

    “Well, we wouldn’t be in this room if they didn’t,” the detective replied smoothly.

    “I don’t care about what the police department or whatever thinks. I’m asking if you think I’m innocent,” Tommy urged.

    There was a moment where the man thought of a reply, and then he said, “Looking at you now, I do not think you did it.”

    Or, after a year and a half living with the Watson Family, convinced that he was going to be adopted, Tommy is sent back to foster care. It’s here that he’s put into a home with a man named Dream, who just so happens to be a notorious serial killer. On the run, and unsure of who to trust, Tommy will do whatever it takes to stay safe, and find a home.

    Tommy couldn’t help but stand and stare at a distance and cheer him on.

    Techno had eventually lost, but not before clearing the top spot on the leaderboard. That’s where Tommy had first learned his name-- he never picked up Phil’s name until much later.

    “That’s some impressive stuff,” Tommy had found himself saying, leaning against the machine. Close up, Tommy was made aware of the odd eye color Techno had.

    Crimson red. The color of blood.

    He had chalked it up to colored contacts initially, but knowing what he knew now, Tommy couldn’t help but shiver at his naivety from just one year ago.

    He shook his head furiously, choked sobs forcing their way out of his mouth as he shuffled backwards, hands scrabbling on the gravel and cutting into his palms. He didn’t notice the pain, too hopped up on adrenaline and fear to recognise it.

    Without his permission, a chirp managed to escape, almost masked by his cries and incomprehensible pleading.

    Almost masked.

    Zephyrus paused in his approach, tensing at the sound and staring at Tommy, straightening up to his full height.

    Tommy’s breathing became more frantic with the realisation that the man had heard. He knew now. That wasn’t good, that wasn’t safe. They were going to hurt him, they were going to kill him, Tommy didn’t want to die.

    A coo reached his ears, the sound dancing on the wind. Safe-calm-protected.

    Or

    Tommy is an avian hybrid training to be a hero. A wrench is thrown into his plans when he meets the Syndicate leader Zephyrus, and for some reason, his instincts seem to adore him. The feeling is mutual, so now Tommy has to try and live life while yearning for a family of supervillains that are actively trying to kidnap him.
