    Summary

Finnick shifted back to where he had been before, no longer close enough to touch. He stopped staring at the water, and looked ahead of him.

Maybe, if Finnick was actually secretly in love with her, he might have held her hand. He might have stopped to look at the sun set longer, noticed how the light shone through her hair, made her glow.

But he wasn't in love with her. So he didn't.
They were quiet the rest of the walk.

    Summary

“You guys don’t happen to have anything for funerals do you? I’m attending one next week and my sister decided to put me on flower duty knowing full well I don’t know shit about flowers.”

Summer’s eyes widen, the question snapping her back into reality. For someone who’s talking about a funeral she seems surprisingly nuanced.

AKA- The suntrip flower shop au I started in October that nobody asked for.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“Oh uh- just the standard stuff is fine, again, I don't really know anything about flowers.” She laughs a bit as she says this, glancing down at the sheet of paper in his hands. Her laugh rings out in Summer’s ears, the sound sweeter than a thousand birds chirping in the morning sun. Summer realises then and there that a part of her wants to hear it again. Possibly even being the cause of that laughter. Pushing the thought away, she goes to the back of the shop to get the flowers. Swiftly ignoring her not-so-normal reaction to someone else’s laughter.
    […]
The person handed back the custom arrangement slip as well as the payment Summer had asked for. She grabs the flowers with gentler hands than Summer expected, whispering a small thanks before leaving. The sound of the bell rings throughout the store.
    […]
A smile makes its way across her lips. Jade. The name suited the other well and Summer realises that she wants to see Jade in the store again. Something about the other had caught her interest and she finds herself wanting to know more about her and possibly get her to laugh again. Oh god.
    […]
“It was her idea actually, to come say thanks. I thought I might tag along, say hi to you. I think he likes the place.”
    […]
It’s like Jade and her were meant to be and now that they’ve met Summer just…can’t stop thinking about her. It’s so quick and new yet she can’t help but be pulled towards Jade and his soft smile and lack of plant knowledge, which Summer finds more endearing than she probably should. Something in her mind is telling her that this feels right. Jade feels right. She groans as the thought registers. Two times they’ve met. Two. And now Summer’s waxing off childish beliefs as if they’ve known each other for a lifetime.

Ena ignored the fluttering in her stomach at the touch, pretended it was the dizziness, pretended it was normal, pretended she wasn’t hopelessly pining for her roommate. Pretended, pretended, pretended, as Mizuki led her out of the room and Ena watched her steps wobble a little.

Too wishful, because despite the implications she wished to see, the lines she read between far too often, this kind of thing was normal for roommates, for friends.)
    […]
“I can hear you thinking ‘no’ already, so I have prepared an extensive list of why you should join me. Number one, I said so. Number two, snow is extremely fun and cool. Number three, if you don’t go, I will be super-duper sad and I will cry all over your nice clothes until they get ruined from my sad, sad tears. Number four, now’s the only free time we have, ‘cause you’re always super busy and never spend time with me. Number five, I-”
Ena cut them off with a sigh.
“Fine, I’ll go with you. You can stop complaining.”
With this, Mizuki let out an excited squeal and grabbed onto Ena’s hands, yanking her up from her seat on the bed and spinning her around the room. Mizuki’s hands were… warm, too warm for their apartment where the heating was broken and too expensive to fix, especially considering how they, unlike Ena, hadn’t been dozing under a pile of thick blankets.
Ena ignored the fluttering in her stomach at the touch, pretended it was the dizziness, pretended it was normal, pretended she wasn’t hopelessly pining for her roommate. Pretended, pretended, pretended, as Mizuki led her out of the room and Ena watched their steps wobble a little. Looked a little too long at the back of their head, saw them turn around just to grin at her, willed down the blush steadily rising on her face. Grabbed her coat and gloves that were by the front door. Hesitated to pull her hand away. Forced it, because being unable to do something as simple as that would be too telling, too obvious.
But when the two left their apartment door, Mizuki held out their hand once again, and could Ena really do anything other than take it?
    […]
But standing there, with snowflakes falling on her hair, hand in hand with Mizuki, working together to build haphazard snowmen, well, it made the winter feel a little warmer.
