As an act of goodwill following a successful peace treaty with Camelot, the leaders of the Dragonrider Clan offer High Dragonlord Balinor’s firstborn child to be the future betrothed of Uther Pendragon’s young son, the two-year-old Prince Arthur. Half a year later, when Lady Hunith gives birth to a baby boy, little Merlin is welcomed with open arms by both peoples.
Now eleven and nine years old respectively, Arthur and Merlin are formally introduced for the first time, and it goes about as well as you’d expect (which is to say, not at all). But no worries, they still have a decade to grow to like each other enough for the engagement to proceed without any problems. That’s a lot of time to fall in love... so it’s practically a done deal. Right?

Gwaine tightens up even more on protection in the hope they have an enjoyable trip with no problems. Before they go Arthur is given an award and has to go to Palace to collect it.

Now back from their latest long trip the Ygraine goes in for a major refit. The dukes catch up on home life and Arthur talks Merlin into going on TV, which doesn't go well. But then they get the offer of a trip round the coast of both North and South Ireland on the Catha 1 with Alitor, Finna and Aithusa. This time although they do run into trouble it is aimed at Alitor and not the dukes. But it causes problems for all of them. Gwaine, Percy and Albin to get arrested.

They also have both Yachts the Ygraine and the Dragonlord. This means they aren't as pushed for space. Will they manage a trip without problems their protection officers certainly hope so. It seems two of the crew have wedding plans and what the captain involved,

The Druid boy leaves a more lasting affect on Arthur. In an attempt to fulfill his promise to the spirit, Arthur sends for the leaders of every Druid tribe in his kingdom. Arthur learns of stories, prophecies, and of Emrys. It isn't long before Arthur begins to observe the strange ways the Druids act around his servant, subtly refusing to sit, never drinking enough to warrant a refill, always meeting Merlin's eyes with a slight downturned head. The Fates interrupt a meeting in Camelot to announce that they are taking the decision, the challenge, for High King of Albion, out of the hands of the mortal mundane Kings and Queens. Merlin is distraught that the decision is taken from them, but knows that the goddess, Magic, knows better than he. The chance to save his friends is too great for him to pass by. Not that anyone has a choice, not really. Magic chooses the champions to represent each kingdom, secluding them to compete and vie for the chance to choose the ruler of Albion.

Summary
Merlin, raised by the Catha, is sent to the Isle of the Blessed to recruit the last remaining High Priestesses. The Catha want to march on Camelot, to fight against the King, to bring magic back to the kingdom.
The High Priestesses have a different idea as to how they can get the King to revoke to laws against magic. All Merlin has to do is get the King back to the Isle of the Blessed of his own free will.
