Toya passes the lab door, glancing out briefly. There’s a student walking towards the classroom, face buried in his phone; he glances up briefly, and olive eyes meet silver.
Glass shatters against the floor.
The classroom around Toya goes silent as he watches the boy scurry back down the hallway; whether it’s collective shock at the broken glass or his own mind blurring the sounds, he isn’t sure. He just watches– scuffed heels of worn out sneakers, orange hair bobbing up and down as he rushes back the way he came. Toya feels his cheekbone throb.
