Summary
“You summoned me, Your Majesty?” asked Gwen, dropping low in her curtsy. Arthur nodded tightly and closed the door to his chambers once she stepped inside. Gwen tried not to show her surprise at the mess in the room.
The blankets were torn from the bed and strewn across the floor. All of the goblets, plates and bowls had plenty of dents and laid pitifully against the walls, which bore marks of a clear struggle.
“Did someone break in, Sire?” asked Gwen hurriedly as she attempted to tidy up some of the clutter. Arthur waved her off and gestured to one of the chairs which were still intact.
“No, it was just me,” he answered tiredly. “Guinevere, I’ve called you here because, I — you’ve no doubt heard about Merlin.”
Gwen nodded. She had been sewing when Rosie ran in, gushing something about Merlin being a sorcerer and, even worse, the king and Sir Lancelot were going to duel it out for his affections.
Or Merlin's magic is revealed! It sure is a good thing nobody overreacts.

Summary
Merlin is so gone for Arthur. For years now, in fact. It would be embarrassing, if he wasn’t almost completely sure Arthur felt something for him too.
Until the day Arthur Finds Out.
It’s not that he hadn’t imagined a bad scenario of Arthur finding out. He had. Of course, he had. But more so that Arthur would send him away, or sack him, or…well. He supposed he didn’t have any scope of imagining that Arthur could look so horrified, and be looking at Merlin, at the same time.

Summary
Have you ever had the thought that Season 1 already had a lot of things that were inconsistent or didn't make sense? Such as: why do people keep trying to kill Arthur instead of his father (who's more hated and hateable by far)? And what's with Uther keeping the name Pendragon even though he hunted down all the actual dragons?
Well, what if I told you that it can all be explained as "nobles' minds work in mysterious ways"?
Featuring:
Suspense! (regarding your disbelief),
Mystery! (regarding nobles' thought processes),
Resentful servants! (for some reason),
Emotionally Constipated Arthur! (the one we know and love),
and
Awesome & Good Morgana! (as she should have been) -

Summary
In the aftermath of a brief physical encounter between the two of them, Merlin's touch haunts Arthur.
As Arthur wakes up, the feeling does not evade him, choosing instead to hold his heart in a painful grasp. When he turns his head, Merlin is still here, his figure standing out in contrast with the morning sun. It sets aflame the upperskin of his ears, and Arthur grapples with the sudden desire to reach out and touch. But Merlin is too far away, remaining unreachable and Arthur's heart breaks a little.

Summary
Based on a YT comment on the scene where Arthur asks if anyone wants to join him and everyone does. Instead of saying that he doesn't fancy it, Merlin tells him the same thing he did in Le Morte d'Arthur: till the day I die. Arthur cannot contain his love for him anymore. Unfortunately, he also sucks at expressing it. They are very much in love.

Summary
“I don’t understand, Gaius. There were no wounds.”
“The magic,” Gaius says, resigned. “I always knew it was too much for him to carry.” He shakes his head, and Arthur has the distinct impression that the old man would be furious if not for his overpowering grief.
“You knew?” Arthur asks, blankly.
“Oh,” Gaius sighs, and Arthur realises that the old man is no longer listening to him. He watches as Gaius puts out a hand against the cold stone wall to steady himself, and begins to weep. “My boy,” he whispers, voice shaking audibly. “My boy.”Merlin sacrifices himself for Arthur against impossible odds. But that is only the beginning.
Note: I have written this as gen, but kind of…confused, gen. There is very real potential for this to be the beginning of an established romantic relationship between Merlin and Arthur, but that’s for you to decide!
Inspired by the song Exhale/Inhale by Aurora.
Trigger warnings: major character death (but not for long!), some gruesome imagery, some self-harm (end of chapter 2), and buckets of trauma. With a happy ending coming though, promise.

Summary
Castle maids had sharp eyes; tongues, sharper still: ever ready to cleave what they saw into a hundred savoury pieces, spread throughout the castle for every welcoming ear to enjoy. If they saw him—and they would, if he left the ‘safety’ of Arthur’s chambers—they would know. They would waste no time in spreading the word that the Prince’s silly manservant had been spotted bawlin’ his eyes out when he should’a been workin’—
And then, his secret would be out.
... Merlin doesn't cope.

Summary
Watching Arthur court Gwen does not tear Merlin’s heart apart. Why would it? Theirs is a love story written in the stars. But like every great love story, there are those who wish to keep them apart and doesn’t Merlin have a destiny to protect Arthur’s heart as well as his life?
When Uther tries to use a bet with a visiting king to rid himself of the young serving girl who’s caught Arthur’s eye, Merlin takes Gwen’s place instead. Only with Merlin gone, Arthur realizes that maybe he doesn’t know his own heart as well as he thought.

Summary
Arthur sputtered. “I-I’m not sure that’s wise, I mean, no — I —”
Merlin interrupted. “That sounds like a good idea to me! No offense, but you guys are pretty useless against magical opponents.” He threw a smile at Lancelot that the Knight returned. “I mean, what’s the use having the most powerful sorcerer in the world on your payroll if you don’t use him?”
-OR-
5 times Merlin tells Arthur he's the most powerful sorcerer in the world, and 1 time Arthur believes him.

Summary
‘How long have you been training to be a prat, my lord!’
The half smile, the insolent bow, a brow raised defiantly in mock submission. Arthur Pendragon, prince and heir of Camelot would realise, although embarrassingly late, that this is the moment that would change his life. The mocking bow would remain forever etched in the halls of his mind in all its sarcastic glory.
At the moment though, he can only feel disbelief mingled with thinly veiled anger as his men chuckle behind him, enjoying his humiliation.
Arthur finds out in 01X10 and it basically goes from there.

Summary
„M-Merlin?“, Gaius stammered, sounding like he was on the verge of a heart attack.
„Yes?“, asked Merlin, puzzled.
Gaius nearly fell off his chair.
„Merlin, I can’t see you!“, he shouted.
„What do you mean you can’t see me? I‘m right here“, Merlin replied. „Maybe you need to get your glasses checked, they aren’t working properly.“
„Merlin, look down at your hands!“
Merlin did. Or rather he tried. Because he found that he couldn’t look at his own hands because there were no hands to look at. His hands were still there because he could feel them and one of them was holding up his spoon. It was just that they weren’t there.Or: Merlin turns himself invisible by accident and finally gets to see Arthur freaking out about him missing in all his emotionally constipated glory.

Summary
Arthur glared, and snatched his motorcycle helmet off the coffee table. “I have somewhere to be, okay? I’m meeting Magnus.”
Shilo felt his shoulders curl in.
“Oh. Oh are you sure I can’t come?”
“No. Just stay in the house.”
Shilo watched Arthur turn to leave, saw his hand on the door handle, the yellow wristband still in his grasp, and something snapped.
“… No.”
