If you drove up north from Rome, you would in no time get to Maranello, the iconic city of motorsport, the place of birth for one of the most famous Formula 1 teams in the world. There, as you drove down the streets, you would see names of the past champions, proof of their legacy, forever engraved, at least on these street plates in this town. Erik Lehnsherr dreamt of putting his own name on one of them, making sure if no one remembered him, at least this city would.
Charles Xavier never had a dream like that. He just wanted to do his job at McLaren, as quiet and unnoticed as possible. He didn't realize soon enough it would no longer be possible, as a Ferrari driver stumbled into his life and acted like the goal was theirs now, not just his.

A deep unease settled within Sam’s core, breaths of moistened air gasped and stolen more than they were indulged and savored. He sauntered, hands shoved deep in his pockets, on grass lined pavement, where blades lay sharp and overgrown. They then peeked out of their confines and joined him there, out on the sidewalk, bringing company to early morning solitude.
Perhaps that is why he enjoyed the manor’s outskirts, he mused, bottom lip worried between his teeth. These areas, so raw and unfiltered, thrived free from attentive staff and uniformity and pesky shears. Mr. Lamb would have a fit about it, no doubt, but it was during those very fleeting, stolen moments that Sam truly came to life.

Yoshiki can see how hard he’s trying to calm himself down, but it just isn’t working.
“It’s ok,” Yoshiki says, quiet. “It’s ok. Instead of shovin’ it back inside completely, can you try just...lettin’ it out? Just a little bit?”
He has no clue how any of this works, but maybe a half-measure is better than trying to force it all at once.
“Okay,” Hikaru says, but it sounds like a sob. More of the unknowable, incomprehensible swirl leaks out into the dark room.
“Yoshiki – shit – ‘m sorry but can I…” Hikaru’s face – what’s visible behind the bloom of him – twists in a small kind of agony. “Can I touch you? Not much. Just – ”
It's been years since Hikaru first took the body of Yoshiki's dead best friend. Despite everything - every horror and hurt - they managed to find a home in each other. Not quite friends or family. More and not. What they have is complicated, but precious.
But when Yoshiki escapes their small town – to college, to Tokyo – Hikaru follows. And things start to change for them both.
