She couldn't have been out of it for long, Caitlyn thinks, as she pushes thick strands of dark wet hair out of her face. Vi, following her every move, stiffens at the sight.
“You seem to have lost your… “, Vi gestures vaguely to her own left eye.
Caitlyn blinks at her, uncomprehending. Then her eyes widen.
“Fuck!”, she gasps and her hand flies to the left side of her face instinctively, trying to feel for the piece of fabric that’s usually there.
“I, um, was just letting you know.”, Vi looks away, not wanting to cross a boundary, and tries to break the tension, “I was beginning to think the eyepatch was a fashion choice.”
Or: Caitlyn Kiramman, captain of a prominent pirate fleet, washes up on mermaid Vi's island where her fleet's been storing whatever they can't carry with them out into the sea. Now that she isn't drowning anymore, Vi realizes the pirate is stuck here for a while. The old friends have a long history and an ocean of feelings to grapple with.

He’s in a new body with all new features he doesn’t understand. He’s an elf and elves in his new world crave sex and being dominated by a man who will care for and protect them. Quinn has to learn to navigate his new life with his soon to be master who rescued him. His master is kind to him and likes to push him to learn more about his body. Quinn is eager to learn but shy about how open this world is about sex with elves.
