Jason Todd & Stella Vale were best friends in high school. The kind of friends who would tease each other, blush a little, ignore bruises and scuffed up knees and secret identities. But Jason was taken too soon at 16, leaving Stella to cope in the wake of his death. Only then does she learn the truth- that Jason was Robin, and that Bruce was too late to save him. Grief and mourning presses down throughout the years. Stella is alone. Until something shifts- the Red Hood arrives in Gotham, a stubborn streak of a man that the city just can't get rid of. “What am I missing?” Jason asked, his brow furrowing and letting annoyance creep into his tone. He didn’t care for his father’s mind games.
“Jay, lad,” Bruce began, quietly, and Jason wanted nothing more than for his father to just spit it out. His hand twitched, as though he wanted to take Jason’s, or maybe put a reassuring hand on his shoulder like he used to. He didn’t.
Jason wasn’t sure whether he was glad or disappointed.
“What?” He exclaimed with a huff, falling back onto his pillow to glare at the ceiling. “It can’t be that bad.”
The silence that followed only served to unsettle him more.
“When you were injured, it was as a civilian.”
Or alternatively; Jason wakes up in the hospital after an accident, the doctors have identified him as the long lost son of Bruce Wayne, and he's forced to not only figure out how to navigate his (very public) personal life, but also the broken relationship with his father.

It's ironic to him how the only time that Jason ever means anything to anyone always seems to be when he's nearly dying.
Maybe that's the point though, maybe no one's meant to care for him. Not when he's not even realistically supposed to be alive.
Or in which Jason gets abducted, he doesn't expect anyone to rescue him. Especially considering Dick and him aren't on the best of terms at the moment. But when his older brother gets captured while out searching for him, things change.
And Jason will stop at nothing to ensure the elder's safety. Even if it means risking his own.

Titan’s tower is a beautiful refuge. Not that Tim needs time away from Bruce or his father, but they can be overbearing at times. If his father isn't hounding him about schoolwork, then Bruce needs help with a case or he needs Robin to patrol with him or he wants Tim to stay and have dinner with him, even if he doesn't really see Tim sat at the table with him. He sees Jason. They both pertend he doesn't. They both pretend Bruce is okay. Like when he laid his son to rest he didn’t also leave a piece of himself in that grave.
Tim doesn't mind, really. He knew what he was signing up for. He saw what happened to batman once Jason died and decided he wanted to help - he needed to help. But god it's exhausting. Sometimes all he wants to do is drop the acts. To stop pretending he's the perfect son with perfect grades and to stop pretending he's Bruce’s dead son. Titan’s tower is the perfect place for that, especially today as it's empty.
He can just relax.
