Summary
“Are you lonely, Jack?” She looks at him, the corner of her mouth quirking up into a smile that doesn’t touch her eyes. “Because I think I’ve spent the last few years pretending that I’m not and it’s the one thing I’ve. . .” A huff of a humorless laugh. “Failed spectacularly at.”
Jack frowns, deep enough to feel his forehead creasing. “You’re too hard on yourself.”
She tilts her head, the smile the same. “You didn’t answer my question.”
Jack has made it a point in his life to never lie to Samira, and he’s done a damn good job of it. He is many things, but a liar is not one of them—save for the rare occasion where a lie could change someone’s life. When it comes to Samira, he has no secrets. After all, it’s not lying if she’s never asked him, specifically, about his feelings for her, so there’s never a reason to brandish that particular truth. He’s pretty good at finding loopholes, too.
So he doesn’t lie to her now. “Yeah. I am.”

Summary
She knows that the vision of Jack Abbot holding a baby in his arms shouldn’t tug at her heartstrings the way it does. It shouldn’t make her actually consider having a baby as a 3rd-year resident, especially when he refuses to tell her what he wants.
But she can’t stop thinking about it. Can’t stop thinking about what he would look like holding a bottle. Can’t stop thinking about a child that is half-Samira and half-him. A baby with her hair and his nose. A baby with her eyes and his freckles.
Samira Mohan is overworked, underpaid, and so goddamn lonely she can feel the ache in her bones. Jack Abbot knows the suffocating, marrow-deep sting of loneliness better than anyone else.
They both know that this is a bad idea.

Summary
Samira has tried every weapon in her arsenal ever since he mentioned the appointment: big doe eyes sparking with the same curiosity she wears in the ED, little butterfly kisses from the corner of his mouth to just under his ear. She’s not above playing dirty either, and even though he comes with a reverent groan of her name, the sloppy blowjob still isn’t enough to impel him to divulge the design he’s chosen.
or, Samira accompanies Jack as he gets a new tattoo.

Summary
The summer of 2025 has been gentle, even to those working the night shift of the Pitt. (A blasphemous thought, and Jack knocks on wood for even thinking it.) The relative quiet, the hum of it, almost becomes familiar, is almost enough to throw him off his game – almost, and yet not quite.
Still, he's yet ten feet out as he sees Samira get cold-cocked by a man three times her size, her head hitting the ground with a solid thump.

Summary
Jack Abbot is not a man who speaks about himself often. He’s an observer of others. An archivist detailing the mannerisms of the people around him like it’s his own personal library.
It’s what makes him good at what he does.
He sees. He assesses. He treats.
It’s something he does efficiently and does it damn well. Otherwise he wouldn’t still be doing this same exact thing for twenty something years.
The Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center wasn’t his first time around the brutalness of saving a life at any cost, but he’s starting to come to the terms that it will be his last.
Or: what if Jack Abbot had a degenerative disease and what if Robby was the one to figure it out?

Summary
He can’t help but wonder what color her eyes would turn with afternoon sunlight hitting them just so.
How soft her skin would feel under his fingertips: a creamy thigh, smooth stomach, the taut pull of abdominal muscle underneath, juxtaposed further up by the underside of a small, perfect breast; those shiny black curls slipping through his fingers, snagging on the ring he still can’t bear to take off after all these years.
