He exhales and closes his eyes, and for a split second he entertains the idea of running after Diluc, pretending they had just run into each other, pretend he hadn’t been watching the Winery for hours now, legs numb and chest hollow. He craves that warm familiarity of exasperated sighs, frown adorned lips and cherry-red eyes that know him better than anybody else.
He thinks it’s all sorts of fucked up that he feels more at peace and ease with a Diluc that hates him than anywhere else. Diluc wasn’t his brother anymore, but he automatically makes Kaeya’s skin stop buzzing under his clothes and his bones fit into place under his skin.
The thought stays as it is — just a thought. He doesn’t act on it, doesn’t move from where he’s sat and just stays there, stuck in place and time.
Kaeya reminisces and ruminates over a lost childhood, a ruined brotherhood, and all the feelings that come with turning 21.
