    Summary

“When I die, the IPC will reclaim all of my possessions. I have no surviving family members; nobody will cry for me.” The last bit comes from the collapse of wishful thinking. A bit of sentimentality. Is it part of the act?

Aventurine… nobody would cry for Aventurine. The man who went all in, who tried to bet against the world, the one with good fortune on his side. Flashy smiles, good perfume, and a crisp and clean fashion sense - the hollow shell, the disposable pawn, the uncannily lucky gambling chip.

“So in every sense that matters, I have nothing to lose.”

The crease between Ratio’s eyebrows deepens whilst his movements grow still, as if battling with some sort of internal conflict. Aventurine watched as he comes to a conclusion, turning his gaze to him fully, and then speaking,

“I’d mourn you if you died.”

    Summary

"Hold on, please," Phainon says, grabbing hold of Mydei's arm in desperation, trying to keep him on the bed.

Mydei doesn't listen. He pulls himself free, striding across the room to tear open the curtains obscuring the only window. Outside the window, he can see the source of the light that had blinded him:

There is no newborn sun of the new dawn. Instead, Kephale's Dawn Device still towers over Okhema. Below them, the city is eerily quiet.

This is Okhema frozen in time, its citizens gone. Even the birds have been silenced. An afterimage of the past, of time together they'd sacrificed in search of the new sunrise. None of this can be real—a beautiful dream crafted to deceive him, only one that is now fraying at its edges, showing the rot underneath.

"If this is the Era Nova, then where is the sun we were promised?" Mydei whispers under his breath.

    ---
When Mydei gasps back to life after Amphoreus' last cycle, the world he returns to is no longer the one he remembers—and neither is Phainon waiting at his bedside.

Or Mydei wakes up on the Herta Space Station.

    Summary

“I could hear prayers,” Mydei says abruptly. "I assumed you didn’t know; I doubt it’s something I ever would have had the chance to tell you. But it started immediately after I acquired Nikador’s Coreflame.” He stares out at the square—the marble of rebuilt statues winking where the city once stood in embers.

“Prayers,” Phainon echoes weakly. “So you—“

“I heard every prayer,” Mydei continues, his gaze flitting to the ruins of the Dawn Device. “Including the ones from you. I knew that you didn’t know I could hear them.” His lips quirk up. “You never would have been so honest otherwise.”

Three months after the battle with Irontomb, Mydei and Phainon begin to navigate the way that they have both changed in the aftermath of the eternal recurrences—and what that means for their relationship.

    Summary

Apocalypse: Star Rail might be the worst game Dr. Veritas Ratio has ever played. In what world is murdering half the known universe for no reason even remotely reasonable? What kind of game kills off its most compelling characters just for shock value?

Also, why is he now in the game — and as a damn NPC, out of all things?

【 Activation Code: “Moronic developers, moronic game.” It is our sincere wish that during your time, you can fulfill your desires and, in accordance with your wish, transform a piece of moronic work into a magnificent, high-quality, first-rate classic. Bound Role: Unnamed male NPC of the Veritas Prime star system, age 0. 】

【 Congratulations! Welcome to Apocalypse: Star Rail, version ██! 】

Well. If these idiot developers can’t take constructive criticism, Veritas might as well construct the criticism himself… by forcibly inserting himself into a plot where he’s never existed.
