A deal he had taken and sacrificed his soul for.
A deal that he then reneged on when Fia used his research to bring him back from the dead.

The words are spoken matter-of-factly, as if this is the most obvious solution in the world. And perhaps to Coryo, ever the pragmatist, it is. Sejanus can feel the tension dissipate from within him as a chuckle, the first in weeks, leaves his lips unbidden.
'You make it sound so easy.'
'Maybe it’s not,' Coryo agrees. 'But when has something like that ever stopped you?'"

Rather than allowing his son to be sent to the districts as a Peacekeeper, Strabo Plinth convinces Dr. Gaul that his son can be better monitored in the Capitol. This changes everything and also changes absolutely nothing at all.

Summary
One night, Robin spots a kid with an overnight bag on a rooftop, and he jumps to the obvious conclusion: the kid's trying to run away. The kid is doing a really bad job of it, though, and that's the sort of thing Robin just has to correct.
Except the kid is Tim Drake, and Tim isn't actually trying to run away. But "running away" does sound a little better than "stalking bat-themed vigilantes through the crime-infested streets of Gotham every night." So he lets Robin have this one.
Besides, that's the end of it, right? Robin might have found Tim once, but no one ever looks for Tim a second time. Robin can think whatever he wants. They'll never see each other again.
(They see each other again.)

Sometimes Bernard felt like he was made wrong.
He had never been like everyone else. He didn’t seem to move the others did, didn’t think the same way either. His attempts at normal all ended up being a tragic emulation that ended with him being exhausted by the end of it. No, Bernard didn’t feel like he was made wrong, he knew it. That there was something intrinsically wrong with him, like it was woven into his very being.
The worst part was that others seemed to see that wrongness too.

A brief glimpse into Bernard Dowd, specifically a lot of the aspects we don’t necessarily get to see (but are rather heavily implied) during his reintroduction into comics in Urban Legends and Tim Drake: Robin. Bernard has been growing on me as a character recently and this is exactly the aspects/characterization of him that make him so interesting to me. Highly recommend!

During a school field trip, Bernard is taken hostage by Two Face. Robin doesn’t hesitate to jump in and save him, even though he’s probably much too close to the situation at hand. Through this experience, Tim sees another side of his best friend.
I love the way Bernard is written here and we get to see this clear divide with how he interacts with Robin vs Tim. I think it’s just such good characterization all around in this fic and I would definitely recommend

Duke Thomas makes himself invincible. Untouchable.

Duke Thomas is a wholly capable and independent vigilante. He can take care of himself just fine and, as The Signal, is the only one of the day shift, he doesn’t have much choice in the matter anyways. However, when a group of new meta villains kidnaps him, it might finally be time to ask for a bit more assistance… If only he actually had a way to contact them
This is such a wonderful Duke-centric fic. It uses his unique place in the Batfamily as a perfect angst factor, turning everything from his meta powers to his role as being the only one who patrols during the day into a very compelling hurt/comfort read. I highly recommend this one!

Tim was doing just fine on his own. He fell into a routine between school, extracurriculars, and his nightly Batstalking. Maybe his situation was unconventional, but he could take care of himself.
Jason had something to say about that.

Tim may have been thirteen, but he was also a high school Sophomore and perfectly capable of faking a nanny, breaking and entering, and hacking the Batcomputer—not necessarily in that order.All he had to do to keep this lifestyle was maintain the ruse—easy enough when it came to his parents but a more treacherous undertaking to try to put one over on the Batman himself. And with Jason as his English tutor, Tim found himself growing perilously close to the Wayne family. Although at first content to watch them from behind his camera, it was only a matter of time before he got invested.

When Tim’s parents are finally approved for their next dig halfway across the world, Tim convinces them to let him stay in Gotham for his sophomore year. Fortunately for him, they also forgot that they let go of his nanny beforehand, under the assumption that he’d be going back to boarding school in the fall. This gives Tim the time and freedom to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Unfortunately for him, this freedom is contingent on keeping up his good grades, including in his advanced English literature course, which he’s currently on the verge of failing.
Enter Jason, one of the school’s peer tutors. Jason and Tim bond almost immediately and form a strong friendship that just keeps pulling atom further into the Waynes’ orbit. It’s (mostly) uphill from there.
I cannot stress enough how GOOD the characterization and dialogue are in this fic. There are some what I consider to be quintessential “Tim Joins the Batfam Early” fics and I genuinely think this fic should be included in that list. It feels so well-thought out and crafted that I was engrossed the entire time I read it.

Post-DSOD conversations that Ryou has with Diva and Yuugi specifically. I think these give a really good perspective into Ryou’s headspace after everything is said and done and also offers him a bit of closure. I’m a total sucker for fics where Ryou gets to open up about his experience with the Millennium Ring some more and these really hit the spot
