Summary
It’s a disaster. There’s nothing for Eddie to do now but rip the Bandaid off.
“I’vebeenlookingatyourGooglehistory,” he says, all at once.
Buck blinks. “You’ve been what?”
“I’ve been—” Eddie breaks off with a huff, and then forces his eyes back up to Buck’s. “I went to the Google home page,” he starts again. “To search the thing about the coupling nut. But then when I clicked on the search bar, the recent history was not mine, because—”
A look of comprehension has begun to dawn on Buck’s face, suddenly.
“Because I was logged in on the iPad,” he says slowly.

Summary
“Eddie, I’m in love with you,” he says, heart thrumming in his chest, in his throat, in his mouth. He feels hot and cold and dizzy by turns.
“What?” asks Eddie faintly, barely even a question.
“I’m in love with you,” Buck says again. “I didn’t know, I didn’t mean to, but I am. I am.”
“You– Right, okay,” says Eddie, so visibly buffering that it makes Buck’s heart clench a little in his chest. Of course he’s in love with Eddie. How could he possibly have let himself pretend otherwise. “Wasn’t expecting this, bud,” says Eddie, and he sounds so shocked that Buck can’t help a wry smile. Of course Eddie’s surprised. They must be the only two people in existence who didn’t already know. “I– Buck, man, you know that I care about you, but…”
“I know,” he says gently to Eddie, because he did know, but that doesn't make this moment hurt any less.
---
Post season 8, Buck confesses his feelings, Eddie lets him down as gently as he can, and they both try to figure out how to be just friends.

Summary
Eddie is beautiful. She always thought so. Hell, she remembers the first time she brought Eddie home to meet her mom, and how her mom came into her room after, and they giggled together, and she told her that Eddie was really ridiculously good looking, like, well done, Shann. And she remembers how much she blushed, but how proud she was, how happy.
And he is beautiful! She still likes looking at him so much.

Summary
“I’m not in love with you,” Buck blurts out.
Eddie stays quiet, for a few seconds. Then, he just says, “Do you want to try that again? Maybe be normal this time?”
Buck knows he’s going violently red. He’s so glad Eddie’s still making sure he’s not injured and he doesn’t have to look up at him, though he can tell he’s mostly amused. He stumbles a bit over his words, when he says, “Uh. I’m proud of you?”
Eddie's coming out doesn't go as smoothly as Buck thinks it should have. He doesn't understand why he's so upset about it.

"Are you doing anything today?" Chris suddenly asks. It takes Eddie a second to process that he's being talked to, frowning at the bike and considering whether it's worth it to take it off the wall to actually clean it well today.
Eddie shrugs. "I don't know, Chris. You planning something?"
"No," Chris says. He stays quiet after that.
Buck stops talking to Eddie after he moves out.

Summary
The memories aren’t fully fleshed out, only flashes of places, people, and feelings. Sometimes they’re tangible, so much so he feels like he can reach it within his fingertips and hold them there.
He’d be washing dishes, and he’d feel the phantom arms of Eddie around his waist, the junction of his neck and shoulder feeling warm. For a flash, he’d see a different kitchen than the one he was in. He’d be looking at a menu in a restaurant, and he thinks he’d hear Eddie’s voice asking, ‘You gonna order the usual?’ When he glances down at the table, he’d be surprised he’s not seeing a deep green tablecloth. He’d doze off on the couch and feel his cheek land on Eddie’s chest, arms wrapping around him, and he’d open his eyes to find himself alone.
How do you explain that away? Missing something you can’t fully remember having?

“I thought you were staying with Eddie,” she says. He looks soggy. There’s really no other way to describe it. “Why do you need to live in my apartment?”
“I was,” he says, and she expects him to elaborate on what’s changed, but he doesn’t. It’s not the first time she’s wondered what’s going on there, but she always felt it was none of her business. Summary
Buck runs, and Eddie follows.
-----
It’s been over two months of chasing Buck across the country, from state to state to state, following a trail he suspects Buck doesn’t realize he’s dropping breadcrumbs on. If he did, Eddie worries he’d stop sending the postcards, and they’re his only clues. Buck left his phone in his apartment back in Los Angeles. If he’s gotten a new one, he hasn’t shared the number with anyone—not Maddie, not Chris, and certainly not Eddie.
So Eddie lays in a too-soft bed in a too-small cabin in the middle of bumfuck Nebraska, the first grey light of dawn creeping its fingers past the dusky pink curtains, and reads the postcard again. He knows what it says by heart, but it makes him feel a little less alone to hear Buck’s voice in his head.

Summary
“I just—I don’t want you to be alone,” said Eddie, softly, like an admission.
Join the fucking club, Buck thought. It was funny, but none of his laughs were coming out right tonight. “I am alone, Eddie.”
“Buck, I—”
“She wants my kidney.” There it went; Buck never could keep anything inside. Could never keep the feelings contained, could never stop them from spilling out over the people nearest him. “That’s what fucking happened, okay? My dad needs a kidney donor and they remembered why they bothered having me in the first place. Is that what you wanted to hear? That my parents finally found a use for me after all these years?”
-----
A request from his mom tears open old wounds for Buck. From 800 miles away, Eddie tries to stitch him back together.

Summary
"We were also concerned about possible organ damage, particularly since you only have one kidney, but your ribs took the brunt of the impact," the doctor tells him. "We'll know more when the swelling from the penetrating wound goes down."
Ha, Buck thinks. Penetrating.
"Wait," Eddie says. "That's not right. Buck has both his kidneys."
The doctor consults the chart again, her eyebrows drawing together. “I’m sorry, Mr Buckley, is there an error in your medical history? I have it right here that you only have your right kidney, is that correct?"
"Ye-es," Buck says. He can feel Eddie’s gaze on the side of his face and studiously avoids it.
"What?" Eddie says. "How did I not know this? When did you lose a kidney, was this when you were a kid?"
"Uh..." Buck says. "Aha. Last year."
Eddie's face shifts from perplexed to horrified to thunderous all within about two seconds. It would be funny to see his stoicism so rattled under different circumstances. "When I was in Texas?"
.
Buck is determined not to fall back on old coping mechanisms after Eddie leaves for Texas. So he invents a new one: organ donation.Bookmarked by Wildehack (tyleet)

It's a bad idea, he doesn't need Eddie to tell him that. But he can’t quite find the words to tell him that he can't care that this is a mistake of epic proportions, that he wants it more than he fears it.
He can regret it in an hour or a day or a week or a month or a year, he could spend the rest of his life regretting this and it still wouldn't deter him, not now that he's dipped his tongue into the water and come away quenched.
Let it be devastating another day.

Buck looks at him, then, and it’s like Eddie can read his every thought, can see in his eyes the want, the need, the desperation, and Buck feels flayed under his heavy gaze. Like he knows that Buck wants to kiss the curve of his mouth on sleepy mornings, hold his hand beneath tables, fall asleep wrapped in his warmth.
That he wants to make a home with him, fill it with love—with a family.
Looks at him like he knows Buck wants to get on his knees for him. That he would, this very second, if Eddie asked.
Buck takes a step closer, bringing them toe to toe.
“You’re fucking—” he whispers, just shy of a rasp, “you’re fucking leaving, Eddie.”

Summary
This summer has had some subversive effects on his very definition of what it means to want.
He’s always been good at not wanting too much or too recklessly. But these days, it seems like he’s insatiable, wrought with hunger and pillaging to consume.
Maybe, because this kind of wanting feels offensive—something he thought he’d snuffed out decades ago, made benign.
He’s always been so good at beating it down, down, down into submission whenever it reared its ugly head; he had a handle on it.
Now, it’s all gone to shit.

Everyone knows that when you touch someone who's going to be important to you for the first time, you'll leave a mark on them. It's not just romantic love; parents and children, siblings, close friends all share marks too. At least, they do in theory. Maddie's the only person who's ever touched Buck and left anything behind.
.
It’s funny, growing up knowing your parents don’t care about you. The kind of funny that would get Evan uninvited from sleepovers, which is why he always changes into his pajamas in the bathroom. The kind of funny that he’s not allowed to ask his parents about. The kind of funny that makes Maddie look at him so sadly sometimes, when she doesn’t realize he can see her out of the corners of his eyes.- Language:

I slept with Buck, he imagines saying out loud. To Bobby, probably. Bobby gives good advice, always listens carefully, like it matters. Doesn't judge, at least not out loud.
Gave. Bobby gave good advice. Bobby is never going to look at Eddie across the big table at the station loft with a faintly amused expression on his face while he tells Eddie something that Eddie deep down already knew.
I slept with Buck. I don't know what to do.

Buck," Eddie says again, voice soft and calm and steady. "Talk to me."
"Never done it like this before," Buck says. "Y'know? Always — always been quick. One moment things're normal, next moment I blink and find out I almost died or, or even did die, but now I'm fine. Never had time to… think about it."
There's noise over the radio; Buck catches Hen's voice, yelling, "Side A's no good. Ravi, tell me you have better news—"
Eddie asks, "What're you thinking about?" and all the noise fades away.
