Plucking the strings with calloused fingers, Jayce concentrated, losing himself in the song he composed for him to hear. Viktor looked about their home, warmer amidst the cold weather outside. The lived-in messes by the table and more across their bedroom. The scent of the dried wildflowers he had hung upside down the windowsill. The light that filtered in through the curtains, the softest gold illuminating the kitchen.
Viktor closed his eyes, letting Jayce’s song fill him inside, listening to the lyrics with his very heart once shot through, and the memories of their life together emanated from every word.
