Summary
When Buck left the Navy Seals he went to Chicago and became a firefighter. While in Chicago, Buck started at FireHouse 51 where he met Kelly Severide and fell in love with him. Two years after asking out Severide, Andy Darden dies and Kelly gets hurt and goes off the deep end but they get through it. A lot happened Buck and Kelly got married but when Shay dies everything changes. Kelly goes off the deep end again but it's worse this time. Buck tries to help but Kelly keeps pushing him away so one day Buck goes to Cheif Wallace Boden and asked to be transferred to another station in LA. When he tells Kelly to see if he will stop him, he doesn't. Kelly lets the love of his life and husband walk out the door with his wedding ring in Kelly's hand. When Buck gets to LA he joins FireHouse 118 and changes himself.

He gets the appeal. A pharmacy, an optometrist, mobile phone services, garage, meats, frozen produce, furniture– anything, really.
Sure, this one is a bit… destroyed, decrepit. But if you know where to look, or if you’re a good climber, there are still good products around, even after all these years.You can maybe even find a boyfriend.

“I don’t really care about my birthday, honestly. It’s not a big deal.”
Suddenly, the man is back in front of him, setting a plate in front of Buck.
“Alright,” The man says mostly to himself, reaching forward with a hot pink bedazzled lighter, clicking it on to light what is in front of Buck: an old fashioned donut from the coffee shop with a tea light balanced in the middle he recognizes from a restaurant nearby. He lights the candle, cupping a hand around it to protect it from the breeze, and hands the lighter back to a young girl walking past, thanking her.
“What is happening?” Buck asks quietly, staring at the man in front of him. He doesn’t answer, just starts very softly singing.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear…”
“Buck,” He smiles.
“...dear Buck, happy birthday to you,” He moves his hand away from the flame and pushes the plate closer to Buck. He sits in disbelief for a short moment, but leans forward and blows out the candle. The man smiles wide and Buck can’t help but laugh.
Or, pain and loneliness manifests in ways probationary firefighter Buckley doesn't quite understand. When he needs a friend, the world brings him Eddie.

If anybody were to ask Kara why she chose to be a firefighter she’d tell you that she loves helping humanity and wants to give back to a community who gave so much to her when they so graciously took her in. If Kal El of Krypton asked Kara the same question she’d would’ve already thrown him into the sun, since it was his dumb idea to get her out into the ‘real world’.
While there’s truth to the fact she wants to help, there’s nothing humanity has ever given her that she thinks she should pay them back for. Maybe she would help the Themyscirans for their training, however, she was already sufficient back on Krypton having been part of the army for years. But no, the reason Kara choose to be a firefighter was because it was a high energy job on a planet where she annoyingly couldn’t get drunk off her ass and thus needed something to keep her occupied.
TLDR: this is a female buck fic if she was supergirl, just trust the process.

With Buck not holding on to the ‘firefam’ so tight from the start, things change drastically for him – and yet other things not at all.
A Buck who grows with his storyline, and is not his co-workers punching bag. He works overtime at other stations, so his social circle grows.
