The man was tall and lean with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Lost, are you?" he asked. Zoro glared, hand on his sword.
"No," Zoro denied.

Summary
Story starts out mostly focused on Soda putting on a good face while having Issues. However, this story has evolved into focusing on all the Curtis gang with friendships, trauma healing, and (for some of them at least) romance. It was Soda's fic at first, and now I am just stubbornly refusing to think of a better title. I ACCEPT SUGGESTIONS/PROMPTS if you have an idea and I can figure out how to write it in, the story is not preplanned.
This fic is heavily focused on all of them healing from the grief/trauma they went through in the book as well as some canon and some "canon-complaint" trauma and hardship. No archive warnings but there are a LOT of mature themes including abuse, assault, mental health/suicide, as well as generally trying to be realistic about sexuality without being too graphic.

This fic contains the parts of Kim and Kenta's story that happened while the rest of the gang was dealing with everything else going on. I'm essentially filling in their storyline's "gaps" since they don't get lots of screen time. I'm telling the truth that is untold if you will lol.
I stay as canon-compliant as possible and attempt to keep the pacing on point or closely on point with where their relationship seemed to be throughout the episodes. There's a little slow burn here, but it's simply because that's how the drama is handling it.
Each chapter represents an episode and will be named accordingly.

If he were a better person, he'd tell her that he loved her. He'd tell her that he was sorry for everything, and he'd tell her how all he wanted was to be hers. He's not a better person, though; he's scared. So he says nothing.
If she were a better person, she'd tell him she'd never been in love before. She'd tell him she'd never chosen to be with someone before. She'd ask him to be patient. She's a Widow, though, so she says nothing.
If they were better people, they’d already be together. But they’re broken and scared. That’s okay, too.
But maybe, after being forced to confront all they haven't been saying, they'll have a real shot at something.

He’s at the end of the line, laughing at something Mags has signed to him. Her hands flutter in quick, graceful movements. I find myself transfixed by the way she communicates, fluid and vivid. She could be telling him the story of the ocean’s birth for all I know. I try to follow the rhythm, the shape of her sentences, but she’s too fast.
How Finnick understands her is beyond me. He watches her hands with bright eyes and responds with a grin, shaking his head.
And then, he notices me.
Our eyes lock and his laughter falters. The noise of the square recedes into a low hum. I inhale sharply but am unable to look away. His eyes are what they all say they are. Deep sea green with flecks of gold and notes of bronze like sunken treasure. The kind of eyes people write songs about.
But those eyes are watching me now, not with amusement or curiosity—but something guarded. Something cautious. His brow furrows and he shifts subtly, placing himself in front of Mags like he’s shielding her from view.
The spell breaks.
