Revali believes he's going to die and despite finding it pathetic after being so vocal about his so-called superiority, thinking about Link and the loss of what they are is what tortures him more during those minutes he believes will be his last.
He probably deserves it, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Summary
Royal Knight Link Hallowell, Champion of Hyrule, was the most curious of creatures. Since being assigned as Princess Zelda’s personal knight, Sir Link was never seen without the Master Sword, either strapped securely to his back, or firm in his grasp, blade out and ready.
It was unnerving how her rage against him due to her father’s orders dulled to indifference, to concern. Zelda could not name a time she had seen any emotion on her knight’s face. Not when he was reprimanded in front of his entire squadron (oh, how Zelda loathed her father), not when he won spar after spar against the other soldiers, not even when he was given a whole week off duty to visit his family. It was as if he was made of technology, created without emotion.
However, Zelda knew he couldn’t be robotic. Not when he bled for the kingdom to protect her. Logically, Zelda also knew that, had Sir Link been a robot programmed to protect her, he still wouldn’t have hesitated to jump in front of her, but she was certain that her knight was human, no matter how much he acted like he wasn’t.

He sits on the riverbank and doesn’t think about the mud on his knees, only the girl in the river with his heart in her hands. It occurs to him, absently, that the river is the most beautiful when Mipha’s in it.

As the Calamity grows stronger, Farosh, the goddess of lightning and guardian of the Spring of Courage, summons a soul to take on the role of her descendant. Summary
Once Upon A Time, there lived a Princess and a Knight.
Both were destined to save the Kingdom of Hyrule from certain demise. They, alongside four chosen warriors, were well prepared for Calamity. And yet… four years passed after the pulling of the sword. Many wondered if this prophecy of apocalypse was simply fiction. During this time, the Knight and Princess wedded and had two children, Lily and Hyden Bosphoramus. But on the day of their son Hyden's birth, that Calamity struck. Hyrule was taken by surprise, all four champions, Mipha, Urbosa, Revali, Daruk including the King were killed.
In an attempt to save her husband and children. Princess Zelda, unlocked her power and temporarily sealed Ganon away in the Castle. Prince Link, alongside his children were kept in the chamber of resurrection until their fatal wounds healed.
When he awoke, he vowed to protect his children from Calamity Ganon and train his daughter until she herself could unlock her promised sealing powers and seal Ganon. Only Lily, his only daughter, could seal Ganon away. For he was sure his wife was dead. And only he could defeat Ganon. For he was sure he was the only one to hold the sword. -

With a haunting voice that could still be heard beneath the roaring thunder and cackling strikes of lighting, it said, "You who have reached this land of thunder, I present you with a trial. When the four spirits have been settled in their proper place, they will guide you to the hero's trial."
OR this self-indulging story where the champions accidentally come across the Trial of Thunder and end up switching their abilities. In order to get them back, they'll have to work with with each other to master their new ability and understand themselves more clearly.
