    It wasn't Hal Jordan who spoke, nor one of the other Lanterns. Instead, it was a man a little younger than Batman who appeared behind the Green Lanterns, dressed in a blue and red suit, with a cloak on which there was a pin to stop him from the characteristic S-shape.

    The man's eyes were blue, not Bruce's icy color, but more like Dick's, warm, gentle, and when he smiled, he had a dimple on his left cheek. He moved confidently and calmly, like someone who is used to entering a room and being heard.

    "With a look like his, it doesn't have to be difficult," he thought absently.

    Overworked, without a real love life, and with Dick in full teenage rebellion, the last thing Bruce needs is to have to babysit the powerful alien the Lanterns have brought to the Watchtower.

    But Kal El has his ways of breaking down all Bruce's barriers.

    Just as Superman stops talking, the door to the meeting room opens. Everyone turns to the door. Staring wide eyed at little Dick Grayson, in pajamas and a domino. Sniffling and hiccuping. Nobody moved for a second. Nobody knows what to do with the mystery child that just materialized in the Watchtower. Bruce is so damn grateful their first reaction wasn't violence.

    In an instant he is on his feet and dashing past his teammates with speed that rivals The Flash. When he kneels he skids to a stop and nearly barrels Dick over but he reaches out and grips the boys shoulders to steady him.

    “Robin.”

    Or - Dick has a nightmare and goes to find his dad.

    It took all of Clark’s willpower to pull away from the screams and focus on searching for one heartbeat—the one heartbeat that he'd been yearning to hear for nearly a week.

    Sweat beaded on Clark’s forehead as he listened. There was so much—too much.

    His ears first caught a rasping breath and a shaky exhale; the sounds were followed by the subtle creak of kevlar. Clark then realized that, if not for the other sounds, he wouldn't have recognized Batman at all. Because the man's pulse was slow, far too slow.

It wasn’t a particularly romantic moment between him and the other drunk and obviously very horny sailor who also happened to be on leave. The two had been stuck up against the wall, outside of a bar, hidden by the shadows, quick hands down the front of barely unbuttoned jeans, dipping into military regulated white boxers until both were gasping and falling against each other, hands sticky, bodies hot and tingling, lips bruised and numb. Hal had never seen the sailor again and he certainly didn’t tell his buddies that he’d had a quickie with a man.
