“—and I know that there’s Becca and Tanner and Millie to consider, but I was wondering if you maybe wanted to move in? Together? With me?”
Mel blinks. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s having a stroke.
“Frank, why would we move in together?”
“I thought it might be nice,” he shrugs here, acting nonchalant even though Mel can see the tension in his jaw. “To take that next step in our relationship.”
“Frank, what are you talking about? We’re not in a relationship?”
At this, Frank’s frown deepens before widening into a frustrated half smile. “Uh, yes we are? We’ve been dating for nine months?”
What.
Or, Frank thinks Mel doesn’t do physical touch.

Summary
Frank watched her navigate her phone screen, eyes wide. An iPhone in dark mode, easier for Mel and he both to read on the PTMC rooftop in the middle of the night. A keyboard typing in a search bar, after she slid up from her home screen. an S, an O, a B, followed by an E before the app she was looking for appeared in the suggested menu. He saw a blue widget with some sort of triangle design before she was dismissing requests to ‘rate us on the app store!’ with a huff.
There, in white block letters before a wooded scene, was a count down. No, he corrected himself. A count up.
8 years, 5 months, 10 days and counting.
Frank squinted, raising the phone closer to his face by lifting Mel’s two hands with his one. His eyes danced across the screen before landing on the blue border at the top, Sober Time.

Summary
Sometimes, you’re a teenager sitting in the front seat of your entirely too expensive car, rolling a blunt for a girl that barely likes you. And sometimes, you’re a college kid who’s just trying to pass his MCAT. And other times you’re a doctor trying to treat back pain that isn’t taken seriously. And sometimes you replace your addictions with worse drugs, but this time you replace them with a person who just so happens to be your coworker.
