Summary
Like so many families in Panem, the Masons deal with the horrors of the Hunger Games by ignoring them as much as possible. The eldest child of the family, Johanna, knows she wouldn't stand a chance if her name was chosen. She can't even handle a few school bullies, let alone 23 other tributes! However, when she befriends the new girl in town, Johanna begins to learn a few tricks for keeping herself safe. Over time, she comes to know more than she ever would have imagined from her new friend.
A long backstory filled with family, friendship and love.

Stuck with a district partner who is thirteen and cries all the time and two mentors addicted to morphling, Lilac instantly realises that she is totally screwed. Is she smart enough to navigate this campaign strategy by herself? She's not sure and watching how the career victors mentor their tributes is not instilling much confidence. But what Lilac lacks in resources, she's determined to make up for in ingenuity, she's determined to be the last one standing.
