He’s lived his whole life with rules and expectations. During every interview, there was an image to be maintained. During every patrol, there was a quota to be met. During every mission, there was a goal to be achieved. During every public appearance, there were rules to be followed. Throughout his whole life, there were lines made that he never dared to cross. He knew the rules and regulations of his life like the back of his hand. He knew what to do and not do to make people happy. It was normal. People are taught what they should and should not do all the time. How they should and shouldn’t talk. Who they should and shouldn’t associate with. When and where something is or isn’t appropriate. How to be good. Hawks knew the rules and regulations like he knew the feathers on his back. He followed them down to the fine print. He made sure the HPSC saw him doing well. The HPSC was gone now, though, and something became painstakingly obvious. Other people didn’t have rules and regulations. They just lived. And now he could too. That should make him happy, this newfound freedom, but those rules and regulations… somewhere down the line they became a part of him. And he doesn’t know how to function without them.

Will moves back to an upright position, wiping his hair out of his eyes, head and shoulders peeking above the water. “Mike,” he says, pulling Mike up with him, their fingers still intertwined.
“Yeah?” Mike says, tilting his head so the water trickles out of his ears, wincing slightly. “What is it?”

007n7 hasn’t had a truly good day since his son disappeared from his arms. The closest he’s come is with small, bittersweet moments. Helping out his fellow survivors, admiring the beauty in the world, talking to somebody, remembering better times. He tries to find comfort in these bits of time, even if others would think nothing of them. These are his good days now.
Or, a fanfic where 007n7 has good days. A collection of moments of happiness he has, that keep him going, and stop him from giving up. Written because canon 007n7 has literally nothing going for him at the moment, and I felt like he deserved something, at least(and to keep me going too).
