Summary
Once upon a time there was a tower, and a man who was foolish enough to trespass upon it.
After being dared by his friends to take a single rose from the garden of the dark tower outside of London, Hob Gadling discovers that he has inadvertently run afoul of the tower's keeper, a man who calls himself Dream, and who wields powerful magics. To prevent the deaths of his friends, Hob offers himself as a hostage: to be Dream's captive and confidant for all eternity, trapped together in the dark tower.
However, once there, Hob discovers deeper and deeper mysteries with each passing day. What is the significance of the roses? What is the beast that roams the gardens at night? Why will Dream offer him no answers, and why can none of his servants speak of the tower's past?
And why has Dream forbidden Hob from entering the topmost floor of the tower?

Summary
When the dreaded Nightmare King demands the knight Hob for his consort as part of the treaty that ends the bloody war between the Dream Realm and the mortal kingdom to which Hob is sworn, he is shocked, dismayed, angry, and more than a bit afraid. Hob has died several times at the hands and claws of the Nightmares, and one already at the end of the Dream King's own sword. Who knows what other uses the Lord of Nightmares will have for Hob once he's trapped at the heart of the Dreaming? Will the magic that makes him immortal become more of a curse than a blessing?

Arthur doesn’t speak; he doesn’t know how to respond to that, how to even begin to unravel the lifetime of sacrifice tangled in those few words. Instead, he reaches out. Slowly. Gently. Fingers brushing Merlin’s forearm. Merlin flinches, not because he’s afraid, but because the touch is kind.
“Let me help,” Arthur says, voice raw. “Just this once. Let me take care of you.”
It's time for someone to hold what was once hidden.
