Summary
Ponyboy Curtis was going to be an alpha. A real tuff one, too. His brothers were alphas, all his friends were alphas, so he’d be one too. He was gonna be an alpha, he was gonna go to college and he was going to get out of Tulsa like he’d always wanted. The only issue with his dream was… He wasn’t going to be doing any of it.
Or, Ponyboy Curtis presents as an omega and has his life flipped upside down. Eventual Dallyboy and family having.

Summary
Jerry Wood looks at him with a face that's familiar — not because he really knows the schoolteacher so much as the fact that he has the face that most people have out here in the Panhandle: weathered from the storm, aged too far ahead of time, and his skin cleaves to his face from all of that mixing with the starvation they all feel now. No matter where one went down here, you always were hungry for water, for food, for anything except the dust that kicked into your sinuses or your face.
Still, his face retains something that most people have not: kindness. That's still present in his face, in the warmth of his eyes as he says, "You shouldn't be smokin'. You're too young to smoke."
Ponyboy thinks of the past while he gets ready to leave for church. Heroism comes in many forms.

Summary
"When this is over," Ponyboy says, his tongue heavy in his mouth, "Or if things don't go right, I love you, Dally. No matter what."
Dallas, beneath the stars, with his dark hair a mess above his eyes, shakes his head. "Pony, I'm not gonna let you go to the fucking - to the jail house, if you lose. I'm not." There's an odd determined glow to his eyes as Ponyboy runs his fingers through his hair. "Jail — I know jail would turn Johnny into something else. If you went in — "
"If I went in, I wouldn't blame nobody. Not as long as you're there for me," the words are drowsy, heavy and he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. "I love you, Dally. That's what matters."
September, 1965 — Johnny and Dallas live. That doesn't make things any easier for Ponyboy, not with his omega dynamic singling him out, his best friend dealing with life long injuries now, his family life still a tightrope he has to navigate, a court case on the horizon that will decide his fate, and his growing, mutual attraction to Dallas Winston getting stronger by the day.
What he doesn't know is that more people are in his corner than he thinks. And that maybe, things will be okay.

Summary
In life, he'd never known his mother to be anything except honest, forthright.
The mother he is burying today is not that mother; this is a version of her he doesn't understand, who carried secrets in her that he never had considered before. Secrets that were now coming to sit in the pew behind him, with Dallas in tow.
Funerals are a messy thing. A triptych from Darry, Atreus, and Ponyboy.

Summary
Living in Tulsa is very different from living in Ophidia — both because it's so much bigger than that tiny town, tucked into the Mississippi Delta behind small mountains that could keep total strangers out easily while Tulsa is a flat, open landscape teeming with rules Dallas doesn't totally understand and because learning how to fit in with those rules is much, much harder than it was in Ophidia.
Dallas adjusts to his new living arrangements in Tulsa in the summer of 1961.

Summary
He has no idea that for the rest of his life, he'll always remember how Ponyboy looks when he shows Dallas how to handle the snake, his soft hand on top of Dallas' own in the church. Or that he'll never be afraid of a snake again, with the way his hand runs on it's scales, in awe of such a calm, deadly creature.
Or that when he finally leaves Ophidia months later, he'll regret going alone. That he'll be gripped by terror he's never felt before, fleeing into the dark, away from the voices calling his name out.
Fleeing from exile in New York City, Dallas is found and taken to Ophidia, Mississippi where the residents aren't exactly what they seem. The years catch up to him in Tulsa when the Curtises die and he's reunited with a son only he knows about: Ponyboy.

Summary
Dallas makes his way down the hallway, looking for the right room, counting numbers until he finds it: 912. Curtis, Ponyboy M.
God. Only the rich could get away with a name like that.
1965 — Ponyboy Curtis survives the car accident that takes his parents' lives only because Dallas Winston was there. Dallas prefers not to dwell on things after – Ponyboy, however, wants to think of Dallas as more than a one off savior.
Then Johnny Cade winds up dead, and Ponyboy has to make a choice himself. A choice with more consequences than either of them were expecting.

Summary
Ponyboy's hand on his elbow, squeezing hard, pulling him back, voice panicked, "Darry — Darry quit it!" Even if he says the name, Dallas knows that warning is more for him. "Dallas is my boyfriend."
Oh. That name.
Darry: the big brother Ponyboy spoke about sometimes, who always seemed to have given Ponyboy a hard time, who pushed him to leave tulsa and do better for himself, who hit him once in his life and never again, who had a wife and pups and shouldn't be in New York but was here, and now, and giving Ponyboy a hard time.
He wasn't an ex boyfriend — just an annoying older brother, confronting his brother in a hallway like an asshole.
In 1981, after a mob job, Dallas goes to see Ponyboy, but there's an uninvited guest there waiting for him and with it comes the introduction of the Curtis pack to Dallas.
Things go smoothly. well. smooth in Dallas' estimation and Darry's estimation are a little different.

Summary
He'd thought the same thing at eighteen years old, after all, when his parents had died and he had only been eighteen years old for a few hours. Things hadn't borne out that way — but he wasn't eighteen anymore, now was he? He was twenty-three now, with a steady job, with a pack who cared about him, and with as much money as he'd been able to save, waiting for his brother to come back by any means.
He repeats, "I can handle it."
June, 1968. Darry Curtis receives a call that his youngest brother, Ponyboy, has been found again. He drives to the station in Oklahoma City to get him back that June, eager to be reunited with his baby brother who was taken from him.
He's not sure, when his eyes fall on him, that the person sitting on that bench really is Ponyboy. Perhaps it's a cuckoo wearing his face, imitating his movements, using his eyes. Or maybe a single mistake in the past has now changed their current present in ways that Darry has not expected.

Darry takes the papers, trying to steady his breathing, trying to think around his feelings of betrayal, of anger, of confusion. "How long will it take to notify?"
"It will be done by the end of the day. Possibly, the hour," Mrs. Crenshaw says, her voice thinner than ever.
Darry confirms who his brother's father actually is. A phone rings in Philly.

Summary
"I finished the ones for University of Texas yesterday, I just need you to go over my essay. Texas A&M, I was halfway done before I fell asleep. I still have NYU, Oklahoma State, and St. Gregory's." He counts each one, trying not to think about how much all of this was even costing Darry for him to apply to. It couldn't have been anything less than a hundred- dollars, and even with Darry's latest raise at work, that was still a lot of money.
"Long as you get 'em out by November, I think you should be okay kid," with a flick of his fingers, Dallas turns down the radio, bobbing his head along with the music.
Everyone wants Ponyboy to get into college. He's trying his damndest to get there, but he's got some things to reckon with.

Summary
Ponyboy doesn't like that they have maids here now, looking at the woman opposite him, her worried, slightly nervous expression. They never needed the constant presence of maids when their parents were alive, and he shakes his head. "No, I got it just fine. You got that tub I asked for?"
