Summary
Chip heard someone say something but ignored it, knowing they probably either weren’t talking to him or trying to get past him, so he just leaned a bit towards the railing and barely did anything else. It wasn’t like he was blocking the whole staircase. They could squeeze past him pretty easy, just like a few other people had in the past twenty-ish minutes.
“Hey, I’m talking to you.” A girl’s voice cut through his fog, her tone commanding respect in a way that had Chip sitting a bit more upright. He looked up to see a fiery-haired girl carrying what looked like the world's-most inconvenient-cardboard-box. She looked annoyed, and Chip had just enough sense to realize it was probably at him. “Can you find somewhere else to mope, maybe? People are trying to use these stairs.”

He couldn’t really describe it, but something about Gillion just made him feel…happy, like this was the start of everything he’d been looking for. It just felt right, the three of them as a unit, even if they’d only talked for a couple minutes. It was like an immediate connection. He didn’t think he’d felt that before.

“Doesn’t seem like nothing.” Chip said, squinting at Gillion. He watched as Caspian took the letter from Gillion’s hands and scanned it with his head tilted.
Gillion sighed, relenting. “My parents expect me to bring a date.”

But not even Fate's guiding hand stopped his wish to explore, whether it was the rest of the Undersea or a single city of the Oversea.
Both longed for things they didn't or couldn't have. But it would be the Chosen One's desire to be granted first.
