    All of the Bats know that Jason is a beta. Or at least that's what Dick thought.

    When he hears the sounds of someone entering his apartment through the window, followed immediately by the unmistakable thump of a body hitting the floor, he rushes into his living room only to be hit by a tidal wave of scent. It's sweet, warm, and spicy the way hot cinnamon is but also fresh and earthy like a fragrant tree. Heightening that is the dark, heady scent of heat.The scent is so thick in the room, Dick would swear the pheromones hang in the air like a heavy mist.

    He turned back to look upwards, at the sky and the peak of the mountains, the mood slightly soured but as Dick reached for him, Bruce decided it wasn't all that bad. He picked him up and pulled him over the table so that the boy could curl up in his lap instead of the wooden chair.

    'Can we stay out here? I don't wanna miss the stars.' Dick asked and Bruce found himself nodding without even really thinking about it.

    Because as it was.....Bruce was finding out more and more just how much he'd do to keep this precious child happy and safe.

      Post spyral Estranged from batfam dick, forever evil trauma can't eat solids
      Dick is grievously injured by court of owls and wakes in another universe with his injuries scarred over, back in time and in a universe where he never existed. Dick thinks he's just back in time with him taken out of the timeline but I think it's actually just straight up an alternate universe, accidental dimension travel
      Robin of a different name Jason era
      Dick determined to bring together his family and then leave because they're better off wo him, dick setting up in around crime alley, gets a job at a bar w kind people who also help him make an ID w fake name nathan
      Vigilante w no name dick, befriending Tim on rooftops, Tim names him Ghost, dick taking care of sick Tim and invites him to stay w dick whenever he wants, Tim dick hanging out at dicks apartment most of the time
      Jason goes missing while the joker is out of arkham and bruce is in space, and dick knows it's that time, dick tracking down Jason and rescuing him from joker, fights joker then paralyzes him, stays w Jason until Barbara arrives
      Dick immediately getting Tim to go to Waynes now because Bruce would need him, Bruce now knows about Ghost, Clark being up possibility that such a absences of records maybe result from alternate dimension
      Dick who is kind and good and beloved/liked by his coworkers neighbors the working girls etc
      Dick doing more patrols to cover Bruce when out taking care of jason
      Still injured Jason feeling insecure about his place w Tim's introduction sneaking out and ends up at the bar dick works at, dick intercepts and takes him to ice-cream and light conversation then advice when Jason shares why he's out here in the middle of the night, dick giving big brother advice to jason, befriending as civilians

He’s been broken, bruised, torn open, and mended time and time again. Gotten up even when he shouldn’t be able to, unwavering and unyielding. His years spent moonlighting as a vigilante has built up his pain tolerance to an unscalable level. He’s triumphed over so much. So much hurt, anguish, and grief. So, so much grief. 

     

    And it’s the grief that’s most prominent. That gnawing emptiness that expands and expands, never being filled. Grief weights on him, an ever-constant companion in his life. 

    Dick is used to pain.
