Summary
It is not typical for someone to transfer into a new school during their junior year of high school; everything was already rooted down in the two years prior, so what can this cause other than more problems for teens? Cole has already made a name for himself at his high school, and paired with his friend group, he is very happy with his life at the moment. So, how does meeting the "new kid" affect him? But how will Cole manage balancing his school work along with the things in life he loves? Will he even get what he wants, or will he be the one suck watching from the bleachers, despite being the captain of the Varisty soccer team?

Kai already hates school, especially English. He only really focuses on volleyball and his family, until failing English almost causes him to lose the one constant in his life. He puts on a brave face while struggling with everything, but it all comes crashing down in the (best) worst way possible. He just wants a hug tbh. Despite everything crashing down around him, he finally gets the role he wants on the team. Doing his best to keep it, he does everything he can to fight for it, even when it means exposing his past.

‘Cole felt like he was dreaming, walking through a thick haze, senses dulled to a deafening numbness. He couldn't feel anything. He saw leaves rustling, but he couldn't feel the breeze. He could barely feel the ground under his feet.’
I was blown away by the love I received for my recent angsty ball of Ninjago fanfiction; Just Breathe. So I wrote another one, this time focused on Cole’s time as a ghost. While Cole takes centre stage, there is plenty of Lloyd/Morro angst and Jay/Nya/Nadakhan angst mixed in.
The fic spans from the start of S5 until post S7. It is canon compliant, but focusing on the times in between. S6 in particular is treated from the team’s perspective, so skipped over completely (although the events are eventually discussed).
TW: There is violence, but it is only slightly worse than what you would expect in canon. There is discussions of rape. The rape itself isn’t graphically described, but it comes up multiple times. I will put an author’s note at the start of each chapter that is relevant.- Language:

Having nightmares had always been a normal occurrence for Cole, even if none knew about them.
They usually involved his parents, his dad in particular.
He thought he'd gotten rid of how emotional he got at his dad's horrible insults at him, or how he imagined his own loving dead mother calling him an absolute failure for her.
Even when he has the same nightmares over, and over again it still hurts. It hurt so much.

Cole Brookstone is a video game streamer with over a million subscribers on a popular streaming platform. He, and his friends, are a part of a streamer group called ‘The Ninja’. Online, he is known as Rocky_Dangerbuff. One day during his streams, he gets a 100-thousand-dollar donation from an anonymous donor, who later reveals himself as ‘RedSh0gun’.
Note: Lava doesn't happen until later on, the beginning is just the context of what's going on. Rated teen audiences for language & heavy topics discussed, such as self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, and loss of a loved one.
Recent: There will now be 13 chapters instead of 10 due to one of the chapters being longer than it should be, so it will be split in half. And an update.

Sure, it was a process, it was in the making for a while, Kai just never believed something like this could ever actually happen. Cole was so caught up in his rebellion against his father that their friendship became collateral damage. People grow and they grow apart but that wasn't supposed to apply to them too. They were the for-lifers, the beyond-the-gravers. It was them against the world until it wasn't.And now all Kai had left were memories and a whirlwind of emotions and feelings. What's up, guys!!! I'm still here, and I'm still angry with how the Ninjago writers ignored any sense of sensible character development and trauma acknowledgment. If you're new here, I'm rewriting the whole series to fix that. Book one in the series is Kai's POV. I'm constantly updating all of my published works, as they're long, and I can't afford to wait until each one is finished to start the next.
