Summary
It had been one of those days - the kind that scraped you down to the cartilage and called it a good save. He’d woken up with the ghost of a dream under his skin, hours before his shift even started; one of those ones where he had to just lie there to remind himself the world was still spinning. Part of him had been tempted to call Jack. He would have picked up. Taken his shift - or better, offered to come over. Then they’d do that thing where Jack would put on some shitty Spaghetti Western and keep running commentary going until Robby felt like a person again.
Instead, he’d gotten up, gone through the motions, and into work.
---
Robby doesn't know how to keep going - he knows it's more than just exhaustion. He also doesn't know how to let himself love Jack. Lucky for him, Jack knows how to do both.

Summary
"You're so used to surviving at a level of distress most people can't even imagine; I don't think you can even fathom not existing in it. It is killing you and you're letting it." Jack waited to catch Robby's gaze. "Are you asking me to watch you die, Misha?"
Robby flinched and averted his gaze further; he felt a surge of all the horrible feelings inside him wash over him, and the monitor's beeping stuttered.
Jack turned inward; he couldn't bear to look at Robby. This is the precipice; the liminal space where Before becomes After. There's no going back. It is out of his control. Robby either jumps off the roof or he doesn't. Robby either lives or doesn't. Then what? Jack relaxed his grip on reality, simply letting it all fall away with his breath.
OR
Robby finally has a breakdown two months after PittFest. Jack fights like hell to keep him safe and out of hospital.

Summary
As soon as Robby entered the ER he could tell *something* was wrong. No one wanted to look him in the eye and upon searching around he couldn’t find his favorite little rat killer either. Usually Whitaker was the first person to greet him in the morning, almost as if he hovered around central just waiting for Robby to make his way into the building. Which had been a point of teasing more than once from the rest of the crew. It wasn’t as if the two of them were really a *secret* at this point, but no one really talked about it either.

Summary
“You’re bleeding,” Robby informs him. It comes out too casual.
“I am aware.”
Robby rubbed at his forehead tiredly, face scrunching. God, I miss Pittsburgh, he thinks distantly. At least home didn’t have idiots running around in leather. Or well, those idiots where just fetishes, not… whatever Batman was. “You planning to just… loom until it clots?”
“Leslie said-”
“Leslie’s not here. Sit down before you fall down.”
To his surprise, Batman obeys.

Summary
Growing up with a job in the medical field meant aging twice.
Once because time simply passed.
Twice because there were things that made it impossible to snap back from. You simply had to learn how to deal with the darkness you’d gotten acquainted with.
Robby had accepted that long ago.
He had also realized that dealing with it meant changing who you were before — even if it was just a small piece. Every flashback came with a price, every coping came with an adjustment.
Or: Working in the medical field came with a cost — and the need to cope. Over the years, Robby had found his own way of dealing with it all while also staying alive.

An ongoing existential crisis, he heard himself say, far back in his mind.
But when every day feels never-ending and too fast-paced at once, Robby was sure that his last month could easily equal a lifetime.
How many more do I have to live through?
He found himself drawn more and more to that question.
He also found himself on the roof more often than not.Or: Robby has more issues than he can count, and they just keep coming — but maybe he doesn’t have to face them alone?
