He had just enough time to consider that hey, maybe chucking the task scroll at the spooky statue wasn’t a good idea, before the strange symbol on the statue glowed a violent purple, and Scar was left floating in a white abyss in front of the statue. Not floating, falling.

How long has he been crying for? How long has he been screaming? How long had he been alone for?

It hurts. His heart feels as though it's splitting in two, shattering into a thousand pieces. He is so alone. He has always been so alone. He isn't filled with loss, because that would mean he had something to lose. No. He's always been alone.
It hurts.
"Scar, please, you're scaring me."
Loneliness is not a new thing for him. It has been with him his whole life. It follows him closely, clinging to his shoulders in a way that cannot be shaken. He is alone and he always will be. No one cares. No one will ever care. He will never make the connections he wants. He will never grow old alongside another person. He will never be someone's most important person. No matter how much he wants it, how much he craves the feeling of being wanted, being loved, he will never get it in the way he needs.
That's how it's always been. That's how it will always be.

She puts those thoughts aside for now, not wanting to spiral. Instead, she looks at Hotguy, “What about you? I’m sure you’re worrying how the city will survive without you for a few days.”
He is a bit worried, Scar’s usual watchful eyes will be in a whole different town. Granted, he’s not just going there to goof off—there’s a legitimate reason why, two technically. The first is because he’s Ariana’s bodyguard. But the second is because of the timing. The Octagon happens to be in the very town they’re heading to, meaning it’s a perfect opportunity for Scar to do some investigating. Yet even with that reasoning, Scar can’t help but feel guilt and hesitation, like he’s abandoning his responsibility.
He doesn’t need to burden her with feelings he can handle on his own just fine. So he does what he does best, and he looks at her with a reassuring smile. “They’ll be fine on their own for a couple of nights.” He shrugs, taking a bite from his bagel. “I’ll be back before they know it.”
Ariana’s newest collab brings Scar right back to where his nightmare began. Surely it’ll be fine, right?

They were moving outside of his cage and they were being very loud and obnoxious about it. He growled, the only sound he was capable of making with the muzzle strapped to his face, then tilted his head to listen more closely, his antenna flicking as he picked up on the sound.

His feet couldn't root into the ground, it was made of concrete and tile, too strong for him to break through. They had done that on purpose. A moment later, something flickers in his expression, as if he’s just had a grand revelation. “Unless… you give him a taste of his own medicine.” Scott’s eyes hold a mischievous gleam in them, the blue of his irises seeming deeper and darker as the edge of his lips tilt up in a smirk. He’s always been good like that, encouraging mischief when he deems it fit.
Blinking, Grian lifts her chin up to meet his gaze. “What do you mean?” she asks, lifting a brow, curious as to where he's going with this.
“Well—if he’s annoying you and Impulse and Mumbo don’t want to fire him, you could just… annoy him into quitting,” Scott offers with a little shrug.
Grian considers the thought with a soft breath, tapping her nails on the table. “Annoy him into quitting, huh?”
With Mumbo and Impulse refusing to fire Hotguy, Griande decides to take matters into her own hands.

It was a routine scavenge. That was all it was supposed to be. In and out. Grab as many seeds as possible, gather as much gardening supplies as they could, and go. No need to engage with the smilers. No need to be in any danger. They had their masks at the ready, their weapons at hand. A routine scavenge.
Scar pressed his back up against the restroom sink, fumbling for his mask as the smiler crept through the door. Its limbs popped and snapped as it lurched towards him, hollow eyes and smile boring into him as he forced himself to smile back. It didn't stop, head twisting at a 90 degree angle to stare at him. Its limbs hooked onto the door frame like some horrific version of a spider, if a spider were the size of a car and wanted to kill everything via forced smiling.
"Hey, uh, please don't kill me?" Scar's face hurt from trying to wrench it into a smile. It wasn't working. Why wasn't it working?
