Robin Buckley was bored out of her mind, it was another day of mindless ice cream scooping, until two girls all but stomped into the place. The older of the two was blonde with her hair held back in a tight bun, she was wearing a sleek silver business suit dress. The dress went to about her knees, her blazer was buttoned twice in the middle, and she wore a pair of deadly stilettos. She appeared to be about 25 and was accompanied by who Robin presumed to be her sister.The younger girl was around 12 with the same blonde hair, but her eyes were brown as opposed to her sister's blue. The girl was wearing jean shorts and a t-shirt and she had a windbreaker tied around her waist. Her sneakers were scuffed and dirty, one of her knees was skinned and her messy curls were pulled through her baseball cap into a ponytail. The pair were arguing in hushed tones but smiled when they saw her.

Billy threw the bottle of tequila onto the ground where it smashed, glass exploding out. The remaining alcohol seeped into the dirt and he stood up, walking to the edge of the quarry. It was a long drop down. Billy swayed a little, looking down, down, down, wondering what kind of noise he’d make when he hit the water.
There was a gust of wind that ruffled the curls on the top of his head and Billy felt tears welling up again. Today had been going so well. He’d aced his test in Chem, as he knew he would, had been fawned over by girls, been envied by boys, and had even gotten a nod from Harrington. It was like floating, he’d been so close to actually being kinda happy; he supposed that’s why his father had been itching for him to make a mistake.

“Bi-Billy,” it wasn’t a question. If anything, it was a demand, a demand to be heard, to listen. With sweaty hands, Billy pressed the phone harder against his ear. ‘Fuck,’ he wished Max and Lucas weren't with him. If they weren't then he'd be over to Stevie's in a heartbeat.
“Billy,” she wheezed again. “Billy I've been shot.” Something inside him froze, he could feel his grip tightening on the steering wheel and his neck prickling with a familiar sense of danger. His Stevie was hurt. “I need- I need help. Please.”
Ignoring the fact that he had two teens in the back of his squad car and was probably committing about twenty violations; Billy pressed down on the gas hard.
“I'm on my way. Just stay on the line sweetheart.” He ignored the alarmed shouts from the back as he did a vicious U-turn.

He isn’t sure when it happened. When Steve Harrington became his best friend. Maybe it was when he started spending so much more time at Harrington’s house than his own, and food and beer he liked miraculously started appearing in the fridge. Maybe it was when he showed up at four am with a bruise forming on his face and his shirt ripped at the sleeve. Maybe it was when Steve quietly told him about all the things that go bump in the night while the sun rose over the trees. Maybe maybe maybe.
All Billy knows for sure is that, as he lays here under the heat of the Indiana summer sun ( not as good as California’s, but better than the cold ), next to Harrington’s pool as the two boys pass a joint between each other, he’s probably the happiest he’s been in a while.

Billy responds with a wave and a nod despite himself. Quickly followed by his eyes scanning his own room to make sure no one had come in when he was not paying attention and caught him interacting with a video.
"Yeah probably not, it's only been a few days since my last post." Steve says, smile wilting a little at the corners. "Well I still missed you." Steve’s smile turns genuine.

There was no turning back, no drunken excuses or ‘casual hookups.’ Billy had poured too much of himself into the brunette, had given up parts of himself that he’d never be able to replace. Steve was stuck now; he’d chosen Billy, and Billy had chosen him. Somewhere, in the darkest depths of his mind, a voice echoed thoughts that he’d be imprisoned for if uttered aloud. He hoped things wouldn’t escalate that far, prayed (for both of their sakes) that Steve cooperated tonight.
