The pain in his side throbbed with the beating of his heart and he wondered how he didn’t even notice that he had been stabbed until just now. Surely he would have noticed when whoever had done it got the upper hand on him.

    It’d be easier, Dick thinks, if there was something obvious he could point to. A clear-cut example, where any outside observer would have to agree. Something that couldn’t be argued to just be a power play, or training, or part-and-parcel of being a hostage.

    There isn’t. Maybe that’s the point.

    Dick paid attention in Batman’s training, he knows what grooming is. He knows what sexual abuse is. But this? This is something he has no frame of reference for.

     

    Or: an apprentice fic where Slade’s kinks are a little unusual, and Dick has trouble finding where the line is.

She’d known, deep down, even when it hadn’t seemed true, that Terra was hiding something sinister beneath her friendly exterior. She’d allowed herself to be convinced otherwise, but she’d learnt to trust herself after that experience.

    But she couldn’t get a read on Batman. He was closed off, or rather, he was locked in a giant metal box and buried deep underground. He felt emotionless, almost inhuman. Clearly, he knew of her abilities, and he knew how to block her out.

    But she felt a deep trust towards him nonetheless, a trust that did not come from her. She felt it through the bond she shared with Robin, a deep, enduring, unshakable faith in the man sitting before her. And if Robin trusted him, that was all she needed.

    Robin gets hit with fear toxin. The titans get help from an unexpected source.

    She blinked, gasping, eyes wide. Her whole body vibrated with the confession, and her heart pounded as if he had touched every inch of her with words. She looked around quickly, as if checking if someone had seen them there—but all she heard was the distant music from the party and the absolute silence around them.

    And then, as if reading her thoughts, Dick leaned in even closer. His hand slid down to her hip with firmness, his lips a breath away from the sensitive skin of her neck.

    Dick pressed his mouth to her neck, hot and wet, his lips grazing her skin like an indecent promise.

    "I’d do it right now. Here. In front of anyone who wanted to see," he whispered, hoarse. "Because you’re mine, Kory. You always were. And I can’t hide it anymore."
