His dad was gone by then. In the hospital, he was forced to do a family therapy session with his father, his mother, and a random social worker. His ‘father’ wasnt allowed to come in person though, so they called him and put him on speaker.
When he tried talking about what his ‘dad’ did, his ‘father’ ended up calling them all, especially him, “lying bitches” and hung up.
If steve’s being completely honest, he doesnt really remember his childhood. Did he already mention that? Oh well.

"Hey," Steve says after a moment, with all the softness you'd expect were he trying to corner and catch a wild animal. "Are you alright, man?"
Eddie, to his credit, tries to answer. It takes him a moment to find the words so at first he simply nods at Steve, one ringed hand pressing gingerly into his side, right where — oh. Suddenly it makes sense to Steve, like everything's clicked all at once, and he frowns. "Yeah, 'm good, it's just the, uh… the bites, you know?" And yeah, Steve knows. He knows better than most, actually, and the sympathy is all at once evidenced on his face. He can only hope it doesn't come off as pitying. "Quit looking at me like I'm some kind of kicked puppy, Harrington, it's weird."

It’s the summer of 1985, and construction of the New Mall expected in Hawkins has been delayed. Steve Harrington, newly graduated, newly cut-off, needs a summer job. Hargrove is still in town, so Steve’s absolutely not going to lifeguard this year.
Eddie Munson gets caught that one-too-many’th-a-time, and Hopper makes it clear he needs to find some gainful employment, ideally elsewhere, and Hop does not want to see Too Much of him this summer, Or Else.
Robin Buckley needs a summer job, ideally something that lets her do college prep work at the same time… And the forest service is having trouble retaining fire lookouts in this one… mysterious… stretch of woods.
