    “I don’t know,” Shadow replied, getting off the bed and walking to the door. After hesitating, Shadow opened the door and followed the sounds down the hallway to the main entrance.

    There were bolts of blue lighting dancing across the room, and guards went down left and right by something too fast for anyone to see. The guards fired into the room, panicked, but the blue blur of lighting was relentless and soon no one was left standing.

    Shadow stood at the edge of the room, eyes and mouth agape as the blue blur finally stood still, standing over the unconscious guards. It was a hedgehog! It looked like–

    “Shadow,” Maria breathed out, appearing beside Shadow. “He looks just like you.”

Following the sudden death of their father, Sonic finds himself the new patriarch of the Hedgehog family, and has to salvage his family's reputation. To make matters worse, the terrifying Dr. Eggman is presenting a greater and greater threat to the kingdom as a whole, and Sonic is beginning to fear that no one besides him stands a chance against his forces. He doesn’t have time to visit the new tenants of Netherfield Park, not the mysterious and noble Blaze the Cat, the flirty and intimidating Rouge the Bat, and especially not the haughty and unpleasant Shadow Robotnik.

It took him a while, apparently, to come to. “Ugh,” he groaned, holding his head. “1.21 gigawatts.”

    It was then that he noticed the other hedgehog sprawled on the ground next to him, knocked out cold. Evidently, he hadn’t recovered as quickly as Sonic had. Which made sense, the guy had been fighting all those GUN agents before Sonic and his team had shown up at all. It was only natural that he’d be tired.

    It was strange, but Sonic felt strangely drawn to him. Maybe it was the fact that he’d never met another hedgehog like himself before. Maybe it was the amazing power he’d seen from him. Maybe it was the fact that he’d finally found someone who could keep up with him.
